Retail investors darling stock NanoRepro lures short sellers after 4,000% gain

3 Min Read (Reuters) - Fertility testing company turned COVID-19 specialist NanoRepro NN6G.DE, which has been a recent darling of German retail investors, has seen a sudden emergence in short selling activity after a dramatic share price surge. Shares in the Marburg-based company have climbed around 4,000% at its peak this month from early March last year when it first added a coronavirus test to its portfolio, sparking a boom in its business. But signs of stock borrowing activity in the German micro-capitalized company emerged for the first time in more than 15 months last week, data from FIS Astec Analytics showed, indicating that some investors were taking a stab at shorting the stock.

Shopify purchases 10,000 tonnes of carbon removal from Carbon Engineering E-commerce giant Shopify has agreed to purchase 10,000 tonnes of direct air capture (DAC) carbon removal from Squamish-based startup Carbon Engineering. This new purchase is in addition to a previous 5,000-tonne commitment Shopify made with Switzerland-based Climeworks. The purchase of carbon removal is being made through Shopify’s Sustainability Fund, which launched in 2019. Shopify claims it has now purchased more tonnes of DAC carbon removal than any other company in history. A spokesperson for Shopify told BetaKit the e-commerce company verified this claim with Carbon Engineering and Climeworks, and also measured its purchase against all publicly disclosed DAC purchases to date. The spokesperson declined to disclose the price of the latest purchase to BetaKit.

Manitoba getting $47M to help residents get back to work

  WINNIPEG The federal government is giving Manitoba $47 million to help with the increased number of people looking to re-enter the workforce, particularly people disadvantaged due to the pandemic. On Tuesday, the federal Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Disability Inclusion Carla Qualtrough and Manitoba’s Minister of Economic Development and Jobs Ralph Eichler made the announcement in a news release, saying the federal government has provided an additional $1.5 billion to train Canadians through workforce development agreements (WDA) with provinces and territories.  “Manitoba welcomes the new federal investment and is working in partnership across departments and with organizations to ensure that the funding reaches those hardest hit by the pandemic and boosts Manitoba’s economic recovery efforts,” Eichler said in the news release.
